Hinduism
The term Hindu can refer to Hindus, to the Indic religions (Buddhism, Jainism and Hinduism), or even to those who simply hold Indian beliefs or have a cultural connection to India.
In the late Vedic period, one of the sub-kingdoms of the Indic culture was centered in the Indian subcontinent, known as the Indus Valley Civilization or Harrapan culture. Some scholars believe that Indus Valley Civilization is the same culture as the Vedic civilization.
The region of South Asia has a history spanning thousands of years. It is traditionally known as the homeland of the Indo-Aryan peoples (including the modern-day nations of India and Pakistan), and Indian culture is often identified with them. However, some scholars consider the existence of other civilisations in the subcontinent (such as the Dravidian civilisation and Indus Valley Civilisation).

Rise of Indian Empires
The Indian subcontinent was divided into a number of political entities over the years.
From about the 8th century CE, major kingdoms developed that gradually spread from the Ganges basin to the Himalaya, and from the Hindu Kush to the Strait of Hormuz.
Indic peoples played a significant role in trade, religion, and warfare between the early centuries of the Common Era and the Middle Ages.
